European companies will no longer need the permission of national authorities to participate in the project.

The construction of the new Paks nuclear power plant, all its processes, phases and components will be fully exempt from sanctions under the 14th package of sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia – Péter Szijjártó announced at a press conference following the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg. The foreign minister highlighted that if European companies participate in the Paks expansion, they will not have to apply for permission from their own member state authorities. – This has also eliminated the possibility of over-fulfilment and political malice, and no EU government can block the participation of European companies – the minister stressed, pointing out that a number of Western companies – German, French and Austrian – are participating in the Paks project. He added that from the point of view of the investment, the situation before the Russian-Ukrainian war is essentially restored.
