According to János Süli, the minister responsible for the Paks II. project, 2021 promises to be a challenging, busy year.

- We have every reason to be satisfied, as the Paks II. project is moving at a good pace despite the pandemic. Over the past year, several  important steps have been taken in the preparation of the two new units and in the field of „outside the perimeters” tasks, ie regional development, the minister responsible for the implementation of the two new NPP units summed up. János Süli said that in December, they met with Alexei Likhachov, the Director General of Rosatom, and agreed that the work was on schedule. In addition to submitting the application for the implementation license and obtaining the electrical implementation license from the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority, the construction works of the Power Plant Investment Centre have started and several structures in the construction and erection base have received the building license from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority. The new year also started with obtaining licenses, as the HAEA provided green light for the construction of two more buildings.

According to János Süli, in 2021, with the focus on maintaining health, the work must continue in the midst of the restrictions due to the pandemic situation, the important moment of which will be the start of site preparation works.

- Eight million cubic meters of land must be excavated from the excavation pit, 2570 meters of diaphragm wall must be built, and then the soil must be reinforced with concrete in the necessary parts.

He also pointed out that significant steps had been taken to develop the infrastructure and services directly needed to implement the investment. They are also important in terms of involving the region in the implementation of the investment, stimulating the region's economy. - Housing, utility development, workforce training, food, transport and transportation - these are the most obvious areas, but tourism, public safety, public education, healthcare and waste management are also among our responsibilities, not to mention business development – the minister added.

Speaking about the concrete results, he said that in addition to the necessary development of the Mezőfalva – Paks railway line, the renovation of the surrounding roads is also continuous. The Paks–Németkér and Györköny–Pusztahencse roads have been completed, the Nagydorog road is being renovated, two information offices have been opened to inform entrepreneurs and those arriving in Paks, and the Liget residential park has been completed in Paks. - An office building is being built next to the main road 6 near Paks to serve the needs of the companies involved in the project. There will also be a technical hotel for guests arriving here for a day or two for a meeting. Construction will start at the beginning of the year - János Süli gave examples of current tasks.
