Public forums continue on the Paks side of the Danube

MVM Paks II Ltd. launched a series of public forums in 40 municipalities around Paks on 17 March 2015. The topics of the events include the current status of the project, the environmental permitting process, the Environmental Impact Statement and the public hearing to be held in Paks on 7 May. After 20 forums held on the Kalocsa side of the Danube, the series of events continues on the Paks side.

As part of the environmental permitting associated with the establishment of new nuclear power plant units, MVM Paks II. Ltd. is holding public forums between 17 March and 23 April. The residents of 40 municipalities in the vicinity of Paks will be informed about the current state of the project, the environmental permitting process, the Environmental Impact Assessment and the public hearing held in Paks, which will take place in the spring. After the presentations, it will be possible to express opinions and to ask questions.
Letter of intent by Hungary and Russia regarding the training of nuclear specialists

On 9 December 2014, MVM Paks II. Atomerőmű Fejlesztő Zrt. (MVM Paks II. Nuclear Reactor Development Closed Joint-Stock Company) and the Russian Joint-Stock Company Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company Atomenergoproekt signed three implementation agreements for two new 1200 megawatt nuclear reactor units to be constructed at the Paks plant. The agreements formalise the engineering, procurement and construction parameters for the new units, conditions related to the support of their operation and maintenance, and details regarding fuel supply and the handling and storage of spent fuel elements. The Hungarian party has entered into a favourable agreement keeping within the financing resources available for the project.

MVM Paks II. Ltd. transferred to direct state ownership

The Shareholders’ Meeting of MVM Ltd. has decided to transfer the shares in MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. – the company responsible for the management of capacity maintenance at Paks – to the value of HUF 10.157 billion to the Hungarian State, and to increase the registered capital of South Stream Hungary Ltd.
Folk music assumes power over the nuclear power plant

Tradition and modern technology met at the interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. For a short time, the Kossuth Award-winning Csík Band assumed power over the virtual control console of the nuclear power plant during the Szeged Youth Days. The members of the orchestra visited the interactive truck bearing the logo ‘Energy for Our Future’ prior to their concert in the afternoon. The interactive truck arrived in Szeged as the sixth stop of its festival tour this year.

As commissioned by MVM Paks II. Ltd., the site assessment programme required for the establishment of the new nuclear power plant units and for guaranteeing their safe operation in the future continues around Dunaszentgyörgy, Gerjen, Madocsa, Paks, Pusztahencse, Tengelic and Fadd in Tolna County. 3D seismic measurements started on 15 August affect a total area of 294 km2 in several municipalities in the Kalocsa, Paks and Tolna districts.
Nuclear power plant travels to a chocolate festival

The interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. will arrive at the National Chocolate Festival in Szerencs between 22 and 24 August. In the interactive truck bearing the logo ‘Energy for Our Future’, using the realistic control console simulator of the nuclear power plant, everybody can try out how the power required for a packed concert can be generated and also what the country would look like without the electricity generated by the nuclear power plant at a competitive price.
Nuclear power plant bursts into bloom in Debrecen

The interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. continues its festival tour this year at the Debrecen Flower Carnival between 18 and 20 August. Carnival-goers can try out not only the realistic simulator of the control console of the nuclear power plant, but can also get answers to all the questions they may have from specialists working in Paks.

As commissioned by MVM Paks II. Ltd., under the site assessment programme required for the establishment of the new nuclear power plant units and guaranteeing their safe operation in the future, 3D seismic measurements have been carried out in several municipalities in the Kalocsa, Paks and Tolna Districts since 15 August, in a total area of 294 km2. The Company gave an account of the technical parameters and timing of the measurements at a press conference, and made a clear promise to pay full compensation for possible damage.

After rock and roll, electronic music has been given a leading role in the virtual control centre of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. arrived at the third venue of its festival tour, the Valley of Arts. Before their evening concert, members of the band Cloud 9+ also visited the Interactive Lorry bearing the logo ‘Energy for Our Future’, trying out the control console simulator plunging the whole country into darkness.

Rock and roll has been given the leading role again at the interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. The rockers of the band Hooligans visited the interactive truck bearing the logo ‘Energy for Our Future’, which had arrived at the second stop of its festival tour this year, EFOTT organised in Miskolctapolca, in order to take command of the realistic control console of the nuclear power plant.

The interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. has arrived at the first venue of its festival tour this year, the VOLT Festival. The interactive truck bearing the logo ‘Energy for Our Future’ was visited by a band of international fame, Ivan & The Parazol, where rock and roll took control of the realistic control console simulator of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant within a few minutes.

The interactive exhibition of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. kicks off its festival tour this year at the VOLT Festival between 2 and 6 July. In the interactive truck bearing the logo ‘Energy for Our Future’, in addition to the realistic control console simulator of the nuclear power plant, festival-goers can also try out a power generating bike between two concerts, and specialists working in Paks will be on hand to answer their questions.

Organised by the Hungarian Atomic Energy Agency (HAEA), MVM Paks II. Nuclear Power Plant Development Ltd. held a successful public hearing on 5 May 2014 in connection with the authorisation of the site assessment and evaluation of the new nuclear power plant units in the council hall of the Mayor’s Office of the town of Paks. The public hearing was carried out successfully, in accordance with the statutory regulations.
Paks II. project to boost economic growth

The construction of two new units for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant is the project of the century. The project may create a significant number of jobs at a number of manufacturing and service companies, as well as in education through the required training of fresh professional graduates, thereby providing a livelihood for several tens of thousands of people. The identification of potential domestic suppliers and subcontractors has begun. Nearly 400 companies have come forward so far in order to contribute to the up to 40% proportion of domestic suppliers. More than three-quarters of the population support the already operational nuclear power plant, and the managers of the identified domestic companies unanimously support the establishment of the new units.
